This Week’s ‘Folk List’ Gives Us Pastoral Scenes

By

Kev Howell – Twenty Three (Live Acoustic)

Kev Howell’s ‘Twenty Three (Live Acoustic)’ delivers the evening sky with that deepening feeling of nostalgia. The artist digs through his memories from when he was 23 years old and paints a picture of pastoral youth and soft melancholy. The artist’s vocals and the melodies seem to travel back in time, swirling with tinted scenes. It’s reflective and a way to experience your own youthful moments. The artist reflects on the dreams, values, and ideas he had of his future self at 23 and evaluates where he is now. It’s an honest, vulnerable and aching conversation with himself. Beautifully detailed with acoustic instrumentals and percolating sentiments, it makes for a great listen.

Liz Nash – Little Box House

Liz Nash is a singer-songwriter with such a quirky and playful style. Her songs are animated, its imagery coming out of the song. ‘Little Box House’ is the artist’s latest track. Listening to the track, you’ll be enveloped with a feeling of home. With a DIY energy and light vulnerability stringing mundane moments, the song has a way of putting things in perspective. Just listening to it induces a simplicity in perspective and feeling. Without the polish of over-production, the song feels real and personal. The artist behind it reveals herself and it becomes seamless to tie into her reality, her story. If you enjoy artists like Joni Mitchell and Carole King, you’re sure to love the slow, crafty impulse of this artist’s style.

Live Oak Sunburst – Lurleen

The last track in this week’s list is Live Oak Sunburst’s ‘Lurleen’. A folk country track that is reminiscent of olden times. The track has a lot of texture and lulls about like a lazy afternoon. Warm instrumentals blush all over the soundscape. And the vocals bob around, floating through like a pulse of light. It’s soft but piercing, gentle but full of passion. The acoustics in this song are embedding, they have a weight and a rustic quality that ages the composition. The country style is old school and the vocals percolate with emotions. It’s a great song to unwind after a long day. It has richness without dynamism. Listen Now!
