This Week’s ‘Riffs & Roads’ is Fantastical Complex

By

Siren Section – Medicine

Introducing the Siren Section’s upcoming album, ‘Separation Team’, ‘Medicine’ is a track where Tame Impala stylings collide with Beach House features. The track is romantic, surreal and is plush with post rock and new wave in the most ethereal way. The vocals are transcendentally monotonal, and the soundscape drifts, projecting such fantastical visuals. The riffs and beats have that shoegaze lift, one that takes you a notch higher to the point of high daze. Electronic elements don’t just layer the soundscape but the perspectives and ideas. It is a composition that challenges but also soothes. Like floating in an alienic grandeur, attaining a new bliss. The track has a way of tearing open the mind. Listen Now!

Julie July Band – All in Our Minds

Julie July Band’s sound is a blast from the past. Their latest release is ‘All in Our Minds’, a track that swirls so many markings of 20th century classics. We see influences of ABBA, The Bangles, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, and many more. The vocals are contemplative and contain such picturesque and literary lyrics. So much imagery. Even feelings are articulated with scenery. It’s like listening to a dynamic painting that is soothing and warm. The riffs build up these frames, mix color and sentiment with feel-good drifts. Listening to it is such a refreshing experience.

Whiskey General – The Beast

Whiskey General lays out such a bolstering sound. It is emphatic, dynamic and full of twists. Their latest release is the ‘Mooreish’ album, a collection showcasing some of their best work. ‘The Beast’ opens the album. With remarkable drums and catchy riff work, the soundscape has so much character. When combined with the vocals, it carries such a weight. The uplifting singing style with the contemplative/ narrative sentiments make for such an unexpected and interesting listening experience. On the one hand, it is vulnerable and disarming while on the other hand it is built with power and a lot of rock resources. It’s definitely memorable.
