Belling the Tiger – Listen
Belling the Tiger takes the interpretation of prog rock to a whole other level. They juxtapose the rock genre alongside jazz, classicals, and a global range of folk styles. And you get to see how it changes the genre, the connections that form, the perspectives that get revealed. Their latest release is ‘Listen’, a track that is broody and dark, theatrical and eccentric to perfectly belong on shows like Wednesday. While the riffs and beats have a strong and bold stride, there is a zigzagging, chaotic bed of melodies that add to this. The vocals also forge a theatrical grandeur, extending the soundscape to lofty heights and immense moments. If you like artists like Panic! At the Disco, you’re sure to love these guys.
Decede – Leave it all Behind
Decede’s alt rock is meant to create worlds that float in its surreal realities, by itself. It is indie rock mixed with slurpy dream pop, dazing and melodic in a way that makes you forget everything for a bit. Their latest release is ‘Leave it all Behind’, a track that explores a deep, tragic melancholy. Grief and regret that turns people into alcoholics. That’s the space the protagonist is in, lost in love, misunderstood and isolated. Despite the darkness of the theme, the artist uses buoyant melodies, dazed riffs, and glassy vocals to reveal his world. Thoughts wrapped in cryptic poetry that doesn’t weigh down. But the feeling exists deep underneath it all, that sticky dark ooze that is left behind after a heartbreak. So, in a way you get to choose how much of it you want to get into.
Grace De Gier – Done
Grace De Gier are alt rock artists from the experimental 70s era. Their style is reminiscent of artists like Pink Floyd, especially in how they flow into the abstract, leading the charge with cryptic atmospheres that you get to feel before you understand. Their latest release is ‘Done’, a dark rock track that has such varied influences. Think Janis Joplin’s vocal style immersed in The Doors’ and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ soundscape. There’s some calling psychedelics and edgy blues influenced. If you like songs with a punk attitude paired with classic rock simplicity, then this is the place to be. It’s the perfect track for you.
