This Week’s ‘Spring Folklore’ is Fresh with Alt Folk Gems

By

Sophie B Hawkins – Right Beside You (Acoustic)

Sophie B Hawkins’s music is emotion in song. Story in song. Consciousness, contemplation, and confession in song. Since her debut in 1992, she’s created so many songs, each one piecing together a meaningful experience with a universal charm. Her latest release is the ‘Whaler Re-Emerging’ album, a collection speculating on the acoustic versions of her 1994 album, ‘Whaler’. ‘Right Beside You (Acoustic)’ introduces it with dreamy alt folk instrumentals. Inspired by oriental textures, soft acoustic characters, and storytelling rhythms, the song is plush and opening into an expanse. Sophie’s vocals are so honest, vulnerable, and generous with her emotions. They form as ink spills on paper, thoughts in a journal, and waves on the shore. It’s easy to love and retro fresh with folk blues. Listen Now!

Alexandra – Let it Burn

Alexandra is a singer-songwriter and musician with an intensity and a passion that warms up something deep in you. Her vocals are especially remarkable, with their effortless honesty and raw expression, as if second nature, as if there’s no other way to express. Her latest release, ‘Let it Burn’ brings a bluesy, contemporary pop, alt folk confluence. All these styles, winding into each other with a cinematic atmosphere that makes it all the more immersive. Her vocals, reminiscent of Adele, of Amy Winehouse how it forms, fits into a cabaret frame, and you’ve got yourself a musical act that you will not forget in a hurry. It’s impossible.

EG PHILLIPS – Nevada

EG Phillips’s ‘Nevada’ is a plush song. It is luminous and full of life. The instrumentals are soft and sharp as they expand into the imagery in the lyrics. Daydreaming about losing himself in Nevada, the artist sets the tone to freedom. He wants to indulge in all the fun and possibilities of the place, in abandon of all his worries and virtues. Endless skies, desert sand and the dream of wild Nevada. That’s what he aches for. And he so immersively creates it with this song. Deep grooves and winding melodies, coarse vocals and piercing tones; all this over a riff plane that will take you far into the escapades of Nevada. Listen Now!
