This Week’s ‘Spring Folklore’ Presents Delightful Acoustic Varieties

By

Janet Devlin – Houston

Janet Devlin is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter and country artist. Her style is rustic, real and deliberately gritty. That wild western flavor comes alive in her music. Her latest release is ‘Not My First Emotional Rodeo’, an album that is kind of presented as an emotional self portrait. Taken from the collection is ‘Houston’, a track that perfectly blends her big and bold personality with banjo streaked, raw country style. Her voice is certainly unique, so distinctive in its coarse texture. Anything that it carries seems to turn to gold. It’s appealing, compelling, and for some reason, you can’t seem to get enough! Good thing you have a whole album to satiate yourself and get your fill of Devlin’s vocal show.

Maria Lane – If You Touch Me

Maria Lane’s latest acoustic/ alt folk song, ‘If You Touch Me’,  is made like an indie film. It’s a pure, soft femme track that explores moments of girlhood. Of wanting to be loved deeply in a way that is irrevocable. The guitar melodies are luminous, struck with such aching beams of violin accents. Her vocals sun-kissed, honey golden confesses an ache to have that old school kind of love where dating, touching, making love, all of it is meaningful. It’s deeper than the superficial connections that we make today. Vulnerable and honest, it is so endearing, so easy to love and warm up to. A great song to accompany a slow moment in the day, perhaps when you’re unwinding. Listen Now!

Benjamin Quartz – Pyromane

Benjamin Quartz is a Marseille- based artist and singer-songwriter. He has a kind of island charisma – sunny, sensual, and sensitive. There’s mischief in his delivery, a silver tongued, dark humor kind of guy as he narrates his tales. His many life experiences and stories that seem to form around him. All of this manifests in his songs as he journeys through them. His latest release is ‘Pyromane’ or ‘Pyromaniac’ a track that explores the worldview of someone that loves like that. With a variety of acoustic instrumental textures, strokes, tonalities, he creates a drama with only vocal sparks. It’s a dangerous track to dance to, with its sensual grooves and sensibilities. Even if you don’t understand French, the artist’s charisma and musical signature will effortlessly transfer to you.
