With artists like Gary Dranow and Devil in the Microwave, you get to see a whole new spectrum of experimental rock, innovation, and bolstering spirit.
Gary Dranow & The Manic Emotions – The Cry of War
Gary Dranow and the Manic Emotions concoct a psychedelic spray of warful sentiments and destruction with their latest single, ‘A Cry of War’. Fresh out of releasing their debut album, ‘Destiny Road’, the band is devoted to exploring new worlds and spheres of rock. The track is a prog rock machination. With revolutionary bass lines, fraying riffs, and powerful beat lines, the listener can’t help but reminisce of bands like Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, and Cog.
Against this fiery backdrop, Gary’s baritones are staunch and serious. Subtle inflections of emotion are grasped and thrown open by the gates of prog rock. There are so many layers to the song, not only in its sonic presentation but in the way it is conceptualized and written. It instantly speaks to the artistic caliber and stylistic depth of the band.
Edie Yvonne – Queen Bee
Edie Yvonne is a 14 year old singer and songwriter based in LA. The artist channels her realities as an adolescent into her music. However, the primary appeal of her music is contained in the realization of her simplistic sonic building whilst still retaining a sophisticated design. In her latest single, Queen Bee, we see Edie Yvonne bringing a lot of vintage rock plays and dazed pop vocals to shape the theme.
The track, inspired by mean girls and their minions, is a candid and insightful commentary on destructive high school cultures. She reaches into the crux of cruelty – a broken heart, and follows the domino effect that ensues through clouds of rumors, fractured friendships, and ugly truths. The track teases the release of her upcoming debut album, Girl Code.
Devil in the Microwave – Handsome Boy
Devil in the Microwave is an alt-rock band, with an experimental spirit and fluid style. Their latest single, ‘Handsome Boy’ is a terrific prog rock manifesto with hard beats and harder riffs. Flooded with dispersing bass lines and distorting vocals, the soundscape is reminiscent of bands like Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Horse Lords.
The track has a roaming trajectory that is splattered with pervasive textures and mercurial features. It’s as if every sonic element is infused with a persona and released into this theatrical universe where intuition, intention, and imagination are the protagonists. Each frame comes alive with evolving projections of these three factors. And finally, with dramatic beats and melodramatic bass lines, the band brings emotional inflections and dimension to the track.
