Spring Folklore Picks With Conor Moore, Liz Nash, & Ker

Conor Moore – Memories of Hecate County

Conor Moore is an instrumentalist and a composer who creates such fantastic moments of song. He keeps it rustic, powerful in its raw intimate play style. ‘Memories of Hecate County’ is the artist’s single from his latest album. It’s an acoustic guitar track that doesn’t just flow. It disperses, spreading and scaling, sweeping as if in a natural scatter. With soft rhythmic undulations, you can float over it. The chromatism is random, intuitive. And the more you listen, the theme comes alive with imagery. That feeling of home, the nostalgia, the memories, all of it is softly driven to a fond euphoria. You feel painful joy in the crescendos, so beautifully bittersweet that you might just tear up.

Liz Nash – Ducks Fly to Florida

If you like rustic folk that feels like home, then Liz Nash’s ‘Ducks Fly to Florida’ is the track for you. It has that marked retro style and feel, doting on sweet and fond sentiments. Building a world with imagery and whimsy, the track unfolds with an informal air. An intimacy, a softness that takes you back to simple moments. Think Simon & Garfunkle, Carole King, and some of the slower ABBA compositions. There’s even a little bit of Joni Mitchell in there. The contemplative air, mixed with something dotingly human. It’s romantic because it’s personal. Because it’s vulnerable. If you want a song to wean off the winter as you flow into spring, this is it. It’s full of acoustic bloom and joyful bites.

Ker – Just What Happened

Ker’s ‘Just What Happened’ is an upbeat acoustic piece that reminds you to heal and move into new spaces. The artist reminds us that moments of the past don’t define us forever. It’s just what happened a while ago. Despite its logic, the theme and the way it’s presented and played is quite poignant. The artist’s vocals are tailored to stay light, a nonchalant air emerging from acceptance. And it lightens the load off your shoulders. The artist has such an effortless way of exploring deep concepts. He finds the subtle nuances within it and strings it like a necklace into a lilting acoustic piece. It’s the perfect track for our spring folklore playlist. A beautiful lesson before the bloom comes. Listen Now!
