Fish and Scale – Tapestry

Fish and Scale is a singer-songwriter and an acoustic rock artist. The artist’s latest release is ‘Tapestry’, a song that explores love and longing. Made with resonant acoustics, swirling baritones and hypnotic air, his music is transcendent. It’s a way of journeying through the daze to find a distinct clarity. Think artists like The Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, and AJJ, you’re sure to love the raw, acoustic grit of this track; especially as it is matched with a surreal vocal quality and a powerful performance. Opening up like otherworldly portals, the voice is beautifully haunting as it undulates and rises into the textured instrumental atmosphere. There is a complete immersion into an echoing melancholy, a contemplative depth that draws out affecting moments of complexity and nuance. Listen Now!

Brian Bee Frank – Hate

Brian Bee Frank and The Syndicated Madness have just released their ‘Chasing The Dragon’ EP. It is a power-hungry, raw, alt rock collection that fantastically blends the coarse grit of rock with moving frames of psychedelics. In the opening track, ‘Hate’, the band outdoes themselves. With grinding bass grooves, marking drum beats, molten chords and a scaling instrumental chemistry, the soundscape is a cinematic masterpiece. And the vocals travel through this wilderness with a vulnerability that will disarm you. The raw beast of the music and the revelation in the vocals blend into each other to create such a powerful and unyielding piece of music.

For You Brother – Don’t You Want Me

For You Brother brings a whole new character to grit with latest release, ‘Don’t You Want Me’. Taken from a recent album of the same name, the track sets out the grandiose of the band and their style. The track features flashy chords, fuzzy riffs, and gritty grooves. It has a pounding bass that grabs the listener into itself. Defiant and charmingly intrusive. The vocals grow into this landscape. It absorbs the grit, the depth, and the expanse. There is a brighter layer to it that pulls the whole soundscape in a new direction. There is power, emotion, and even a moment of pop in the chorus that keeps the soundscape dynamic and lively. If you enjoy bands like Nickelback and Green Day, you’re sure to love the powerful vocals and the challenging instrumentals.

Kenichi Tamura – Himlen Styr Allt

Kenichi Tamura is a Japanese composer, artist and guitarist who conceives exploration soundscapes that immerse you. His latest release, ‘Himlen Styr Allt’ is the perfect track to conclude this week’s alt rock list. The instrumental has vivid chords and a bassline that pierces the atmosphere in an expansive way. A floating line of guitar unfurls across the soundscape like a ribbon flying in the wind. In an upward, expressive drift, the melody is propelling. Setting the perfect ambience and rhythm for a contemplative time. The artist especially celebrates classic rock with this track, straying into 70s reminiscent blues, contrasting it with a gritty bassline. With each one tempering the other, the track dallies and grows, creating a beautifully non-dual space to fall into.
