This Week’s ‘Spring Folklore’ List is all About that Expansive Alt Folk

By

With Sun – Shoebox

With Sun’s latest release, ‘Shoebox’ is a sweet and sweetening alt folk track. The singer-songwriter and poet details the meaningful treasures that she collected over her lifetime, kept in a shoebox. And the song begins when she opens it. She finds that it has a soul, a life of its own. It glistens with life, like valuable gems, orbs of memory that live within its four walls. There are such beautiful moments of nostalgia, luminosity, fondness, joy, love and vulnerability swirling into each other. With liquid melodies, glinting acoustics, and an evocative vocal line, the song is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. That slice of life pieces floating in an ocean of human emotion and experience, gliding along a valley of wonder and life’s beauty. It makes you feel alive and present in time.

Nikiré – eternity beneath the stars of God

Nikiré soul folk in ‘ETERNITY beneath the stars of God’ magnified this wondrous after taste, bringing it to the spotlight. The artist, with her deep artistic resonance creates a space of contemplation, beauty and hope. A place that attaches to everything that is sacred in human beings, the magic that makes them, the magic that keeps them. With floating piano melodies lifting into the serene curves of her vocals, the song has that transcendental feeling. It draws you away from the mundane, from the mediocre to its dreamy, trance ambience alt folk reality. And it is so pleasantly and wonderfully modern. Listen Now!

GISKE – the Sound of Birdsong

GISKE & Maria Due wind up this week’s list with their drifting folk pop/ rock song, ‘The Sound of Birdsong’. It is contemplative with an undulating rhythm and a vocal spirit that moves you with its gentle wisdom and simple form. Both the artists harmonise, the baritones forming around the sopranos. And the melodic acoustics forming around it are fresh and crisp. Like a spring morning. Through the song, the artists give us a happy place, immersive with imagery, sound and a promise of frolic and joy. There are a lot of indie elements that burst into the scene, feeling so intimate, profound, and expansive grace.
