Leazes – Melissa in Action
Leazes is an indie rock band whose latest single, ‘Melissa in Action’ is the best way to start off this week’s list. Its burning riffs, as dazing and youthful as the summer sun will recharge your riff-hungry soul. And there’s plenty more where that came from. The whole song is laid out with riffs. You can roll in it, jump up and down on it, float through it, and drape yourself in it. The texture of it is so addictive, it keeps looping through, recharging the soundscape. The vocals align with this texture. The deep burn in the baritone, the smoke of the bassline, and the burning passion of the theme. It all comes together, drifting with a dynamic rhythm and taking you with it. It’s the perfect song.
MatAre – Extinction Burst
MatAre’s ‘Extinction Burst’ is a mysterious alt rock album. And the title track has such a rich flavor, transporting.. transcendental. The track is a slow dark rock burn, with moments of pop and electronica. So we get to see a lot of electric bursts across a simmering rock backdrop. The contrast is elating and intoxicating. The hypnotic vocal tones add to this feeling. It all creates a space for you to flow into, burrow and find the new world. Find the emotions and energy that he channels into the track. There is so many fantastical elements, otherworldly magic. You can imagine the world building, the features that he slowly adds to it, and it’s a fantastic audio-visual experience.
Alan Mair – Ghost of You in Me
Alan Mair’s alternative vision is not in the ordinary plane of things. The artist has a dark and vivid style, that immerses you in a way that makes you curious and lures you deeper. His latest release is ‘Ghost of You in Me’, a track that is haunting and visceral in how it portrays the theme. Middle eastern melodic loops are fleshed out with warm riffs and an explorative vocal line. A cinematic production style brings all these elements together. There’s a visual sense to this song, imagery forming, lurking at every emotional corner as the artist explores heartache with an exaggerated metaphor. It’s a dark alternative without weighing you down. With its cerebral textures and arrangements, it intrigues the mind and keeps you engaged.
