This Week’s ‘Sprig Folklore’ Rides a Warm, Hearty Breeze

By

Michellar – September

Michellar softly traces and looks forward to the quiet and ubiquitous seasonal shift in her latest release, ‘September’. It’s a song that embodies the cool winds, orange leaves, and sweet pies of the coming fall. Looking back at the summer with all its fun and joy in. The melodies run through the soundscape like string lights, singular and dotting the song with soft luminosity and dim romance. Featuring the longing vocal spirit of Helen Walford, the song so aptly encompasses this transitory month. Where the cool winds meet the warm memories of summer. The bustle of the warmer month becomes a little bit quieter as the clouds form and the sun hides. That bittersweet emotion leaves a stain on the mind, and even though the fall has its own charm, summer will still be missed.

Danny Hammons – Shooting Stars

Danny Hammons’ magic is speckled acoustics, dispersing into the soundscape with a sweet, emotional charge. His latest release is ‘Shooting Stars’, a track that wears rustic guitar acoustics, layered with chunky banjo melodies and plucked ukulele. And floating through these stringy rivulets is a stream of consciousness vocals. Swirling with thoughts, conversations, memories, and night skies with shooting stars, the atmosphere that lifts out this canvas is so special. It all raises effortlessly out of the canvas, the melodies glinting, the emotions swirling, and the vocals transporting, as if you’re under a sky full of shooting stars. Listen Now!

Broken Colours – Before the Sun

Broken Colours is an indie funk band known usually for its dynamic soundscapes and catchy tunes. However, for their latest release, ‘Before the Sun’, they create a fresh acoustic flow that is contemplative and reflective. It is intimate and vulnerable as it seeks for explanations and answers. The vocals are especially affecting with their honest expression. Inflections are natural and organic, wrenched out from the deepest parts of the mind. And the acoustics, dallying and dancing around it are a simple, pleasant presence. They hold space both for grounding and growth. Just abstract enough to expand the thoughts, offer perspective, and cultivate them into lights that guide you home.
