This Week’s Alt Rock Picks Are Surreal, Ethereal Blends of Thought

By

Tamar Berk – stay close by

Tamar Berk’s alt rock is fantastical. It is a flush of luminous mystical folk pop with a resonant rock bass. In her latest release, ‘stay close by’, she expands melancholic romance into a full landscape. It is vast, so open, and endless. There is so much light and lightness, a soft feeling that bleeds into dreamy skies. The melancholy manifests in the vocals with a lavish atmosphere. In a way that is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey. The rock is in the instrumentals, grounding, deep, and electric. She multiplies the emotion, the theme with the riffs, building them into a complex structure of feeling. That, in collusion with the ethereal spirit of her vocals is simply grand. There is intuition and intimacy, vulnerability and an allowing self awareness that keeps tugging at you.

Catherine Elms – if destroyed still true

Amy Whinehouse. Celine Dion. Catherine Elms. The artist is a drawing blues singer-songwriter who creates enchanting atmospheres of blues and rock for her listeners. Taken from her latest album is ‘If destroyed still true’, a track that is darkly contemplative and spectacularly haunting. It has a very cerebral make up, connecting moments of standstill ruminations and drastic progressions. The riffs create loose structures in the backdrop, a base that blossoms with expressive acoustics and meaningful vocals. It forms a groove, a rhythm that is as complex as it is real, as intimate as it is enamouring. And just like that, you’re part of her enigmatic world, wrapped up in mystery and theatrics. Daddy DRWG – Wise Guys

Welsh singer-songwriter and musician, Daddy DRWG delivers a contemplative folk rock/ pop rock song with his latest release, ‘Wise Guys’. It is a luminous song, splashy with textures and plush in its sound. There is simplicity, which is slowly pulled into layers of emotion and meaning. Country folk instrumentals pave the way to the theme. They are cushioned and fleshed out with warm riffs, anthemic beats, a celebratory chorus, and a beautiful vocal energy. They all combine and collide to take the theme to the next level. It is happy, feelgood, made to remind the listener what a good life is all about. With playful melodic moments pouring into reflective moments, the artist has a beautiful way of reconciling it all and casting it in a way that it all matters. Listen Now!
