This Week’s ‘Riffs & Roads’ List presents Fresh Brands of Alt Rock

By

This week’s list is explorative alt rock with moments of darkwave, blues, and classic rock.

Blunt Blade – Sprawling

Imagine a darkwave melting into hard rock riffs. That’s the experience of the latest release, ‘Sprawling’ by Blunt Blade. The track opens with a mysterious synth line. The weighted context forms afterwards in the form of a thundering riff- beat combo. The vocals have a witchy, dark magic energy to it, so full of infinities and deep cerebral states. With the alternating and sometimes interwoven states of fragility and force, the band seems to create a contrast. Where the latter challenges you, the former compels the listener. Together, it is an interesting listening experience, one that keeps the mind engaged and evolving. An attitude that works great for an adventurous flow.

Maddox Jones – Pineapple Salsa

With his latest, ‘Pineapple Salsa’, Maddox Jones presents a Latin soul salsa with a soft twist of classic rock and blues. The rhythm makes up this song. With a consistent flow, tapping beats and a riff chemistry that is matched well with the vocals, the song is easy to love. It wakes up the fun in you, gives you that energy, and gets the groove going. As a singer-songwriter, the artist’s vision is not one dimensional. His stylistic calling is so varied, influenced by so much more than just sound. Weaving in dance, reflection, soul, and blues, he creates color with music. There’s so much life in his songs that when it comes on, it makes you alive. Listen Now!

Jesse H Davis – Selfish

From his latest EP, ‘it’s hard to get out of the world’, Jesse H Davis presents ‘Selfish’. The song, forged with deep and dimly contemplative blues, magically washes your mind. It is a cerebral treat that plays with instrumental indulgence and contemplative flows. The acoustics, soft and gossamer, so achingly beautiful is made deeper and more nuanced with the blues guitar work. The best way to think of the track is as a train of thought. With that Nick Drake-esque simmer and Neil Young’s sentimentality, the atmosphere in the track comes alive. There is also a soft psychedelic dimension for the people who want to delve further in, for the people who like to get lost, to disperse and just float away. The song both sends you along and draws you back in.
